Q: What is all this construction at Austin High?
A: AHS is currently in the process of adding on to our school and building a new gym and set of locker rooms. Our new gym should be completed by August 1, 2021. We are planning on playing our 2021 volleyball season there!
Q: How many teams does Austin High have?
A: This 2021 season we will have four teams. Varsity (any grade), JV (any grade), Flex (Freshman/Sophomore only), Freshman (Freshman only). This alignment was voted on by all the coaches in our district and passed unanimously for the 2020-2021 seasons.
Q: When do we practice?
A: If you make a team, you will need to have volleyball on your schedule. If you are on the Freshman or Flex team, you will need volleyball for 3rd and 8th period. If you are on the JV or Varsity team, you will need volleyball for 4th and 8th period. It is important to make the schedule change before school starts. 3rd period practice is only 3rd period. 4th and 8th period practice will extend to after school. *If you have volleyball on your schedule, but do not make a team you will have to change your schedule before school starts.
Freshman/Flex: Volleyball practice during 3rd period only. Weights for 30 min after school.
JV/V: Practice 3:30 - 6:30pm (volleyball and weights)
Tuesday: GAME DAY
Freshman/Flex: Volleyball practice during 3rd period only.
JV/V: Practice 3:30-6:30pm (volleyball and weights)
All teams: Practice 3:30-6:30pm (volleyball and weights)
Friday: GAME DAY
Q: Are all practices mandatory?
A: Yes. Obviously if you are sick you don’t have to come, but we expect everyone to be at all practices and games during the year. If a player is skipping, Coach Woods will discuss consequences that could lead to removal from the program.
Q: Do we have to miss school on game days?
A: Sometimes, yes. It will depend on where we are going. It is important to stay organized and talk to your teachers early as players are still responsible for completing all assignments and making up tests/labs.
Q: Do we eat a team meal on game days?
A: Due to COVID-19 this answer is TBD. In 2019 we did, but in 2020 we did not.
